Less spreadsheet archaeology

Your records should not feel like a second job.

AccountMode turns the familiar weekly accounts routine into a focused native app. Add what came in, what went out and where you travelled. The totals look after themselves.

  • One weekly place for the records that matter
  • Clear separation between money owed and money received
  • Useful exports without learning an accounting suite

The practical essentials

Everything you need to keep good records. Nothing shouting for attention.

Weekly bookkeeping

Move through the tax year one week at a time, with income, expenses, mileage and contributions together.

Recurring records

Prepare regular subscriptions, rent, pension contributions and income so the routine is easier to remember.

Receipts and files

Photograph, scan or attach supporting documents to expenses, with local previews and clear references.

Mileage and car costs

Log journeys, reuse favourite routes and keep mileage claims separate from other vehicle costs.

Clients and payments

Track amounts due, payments received and histories without counting unpaid invoices as income.

Accountant exports

Prepare summaries and transaction breakdowns for an accountant, including MTD-style quarterly records.

See every feature

A rhythm that works

From Monday’s first payment to Friday’s tidy records.

Capture

Add received income, expenses and mileage as the week happens.

Attach

Add a receipt, invoice or reference while the details are still fresh.

Review

Check totals, missing records and outstanding client payments.

Export

Share a clean period or tax-year pack when your accountant needs it.

For the accountant hand-off

Turn weekly records into a useful export.

Choose a quarter, year or custom period. AccountMode brings together received income, itemised expenses, mileage and supporting references in formats designed to be checked and shared.

AccountMode supports record keeping and MTD-style reporting. It does not submit directly to HMRC and is not a substitute for professional advice.

Apple-first

Pick up the same records on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Financial records use your private iCloud account for cross-device sync, with offline entry when a connection is unavailable. Optional Face ID or Touch ID adds another layer of privacy.

Receipt and document file payloads are currently stored locally on the device where they were attached; their record references can still be included in exports.

Useful estimates, plainly explained

Know what you may want to put aside.

Set your preferred tax reserve percentage and see it update alongside estimated profit. AccountMode’s estimates are guides, with clear explanations rather than mysterious numbers.

How estimates work

Built from real self-employment

Made by someone who needed it.

AccountMode began as a way to replace a sprawling weekly accounts spreadsheet. It is shaped around the reality of teaching, performing, selling creative work and getting the paperwork ready for an accountant.

Questions, answered

Before you put the spreadsheet away.

AccountMode is a bookkeeping and record-keeping app for self-employed work. It helps organise transactions and prepare exports, but it does not provide tax advice or replace an accountant.
No. AccountMode can prepare quarterly and tax-year records in an MTD-style format, but it does not currently submit returns directly to HMRC.
No. Outstanding invoices remain separate. Income totals use payments that have actually been received and the date they were paid.
Yes. Income, expense, car cost and payment categories can be managed without tying the app to one profession.
Core records are stored using Apple’s local data technology and private iCloud/CloudKit sync. Attachment files are currently local to the device where they were added.
Yes. AccountMode includes JSON backup export alongside period, tax-year and accountant-oriented exports.
AccountMode is being developed for iPhone and iPad, with a Mac-compatible experience for reviewing and exporting records.
AccountMode is currently in private testing. Join the testing updates to hear when wider TestFlight or App Store availability opens.
